How To Lower Electric Bill Expenses

These days, everyone wants to know how to lower electric bill expenses. As we all know, in order for electric companies to provide us with the power to our homes they must implement the use of fuel. Recently, however, the prices associated with these fuels have increased in a dramatic way.

A variety of fuels are necessary when it comes to generating electricity. These include natural gas, coal, nuclear, and even oil. It is no wonder that we pay high rates for electricity! Here, I will share with you ten techniques for powering up some savings on electricity!

1. Do you run air conditioning in your home? If so, this could be a major contributor to high electrical costs. If your air conditioner has a thermostat, the first thing that you should do is set it to the “auto” position. When you are away from the home, you should adjust the thermostat to approximately 82 degrees. While you are at home, you should set it to approximately 78 degrees.

2. When using heating in the home, there are some steps that you can take to save on electricity. First, adjust the thermostat to “auto.” Then, attempt to heat the home at approximately 68 degrees at all times. While you are away, approximately 65 degrees is an appropriate setting.

3. Make sure that all of the appliances that you use in the home are rated as the energy efficient choice.

4. Do you have ceiling fans in the home? Do you know that the average fan that operates from the ceiling costs approximately $7.00 a month if it is operated constantly? Be sure to turn off these fans when they are not needed. This will help to save on electricity charges.

5. If you run a central air conditioning unit, you should replace the filter each and every month. Clean filters ensure the overall efficiency of your system.

6. Do you use a dishwasher in the home? If so, another way to lower electric bill expenses is to cut back on the amount of pre-rinsing that you do. It has been estimated that by avoiding or cutting back on the pre-rinsing that is done, you can save $70 or more annually.

7. Many individuals have a pool as part of their home. Do you? If so, it is important to watch how long you run the pump that cleans the pool, etc. In the summer months, it is probably a good idea to limit the usage to five to six hours a day. In the winter months, about four hours or less is appropriate.

8. When operating your washing machine, avoid the temptation to use the hot water and simply wash with cold water. You should also match the water level to the size of the laundry load that you have. If you have an energy efficient setting or a “quick wash” setting, it is important to utilize it in order to save money on electricity.

9. Now, you know that lint filter catch in your dryer? Pay special attention to this! You should clean it before drying each load of clothes. This way the dryer doesn’t have to use more energy to get the clothes dry, and you save on electricity costs in the process!

10. The next way that you can save on electricity is to ensure that you use energy efficient bulbs, or green lights, in and around the home. These bulbs can save you hundreds of dollars annually! Transition from standard light bulbs to bulbs that are considered “Energy Star.”

As you can see, there are a number of strategies that can be used to lower electric bill expenses in the home. If you are ready to power up on savings, implement the steps listed here!

You have two choices when tracking your spending quickly and easily. You can use a paper-based system or a software-based solution. We have extensively reviewed both and found products that stand above the crowd. All use the envelope system of budgeting to maximum effectiveness:
